Community Policing Unit (CPU)

Unit Overview

The Community Policing Unit is a specialized division within the Patrol Division, dedicated to building strong partnerships, solving neighborhood issues, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

The Community Policing Unit is led by Sergeant Elmasian and serves as the department’s frontline team for proactive community engagement and problem-solving.

Core Responsibilities

  • School Resource Officers: Staffed by four dedicated SROs, with two stationed at the High School, one at Martin Middle School, and one at Riverside Middle School.
  • Community Affairs: Staffed by two Community Affairs Officers focused on neighborhood issues, public outreach, and educational programs.
  • Elderly Affairs: Staffed by one specialized Elderly Affairs Officer serving as a dedicated resource for our senior residents.
  • Community Events: Organizes major department outreach initiatives including National Night Out, Coffee with a Cop, and other local events.
  • Problem Solving: Works directly with citizens and business owners to identify and resolve chronic neighborhood issues.

The Community Policing Unit provides a bridge between the police department and the citizens we serve, focusing on proactive partnership rather than just reactive enforcement. Through visible school placement, senior outreach, and strong neighborhood connections, the unit works to keep the community safe while building lasting trust and collaboration.
